Space Station 14

Reverie Page

Reverie Page whispers, "Sor-rry..."

Reverie Page isn't a character I've played too much, but she's important to me. She's shy, nervous, stutters a lot, and never speaks above a whisper.

She's another character that I don't have much backstory for, but one that was created for a specific purpose. While other characters of mine have been made to fulfil gameplay wants or particular bits, Reverie is a lot more personal to me.

I'm a very socially anxious person. As a child, I suffered from selective mutism, and though I've long since been treated for it, I still struggle in a lot of social situations. Selective mutism is a very difficult thing to portray in a game like Space Station 14, but that anxiety and nervousness is something I wanted to explore with Reverie.

With all that said, Reverie isn't all that serious. She's still a bit of a cartoon character, as all good Space Station characters should be, and her anxiety manifests in humorous ways. She's been intimidated by antagonists so hard she crumbles in front of them, making them feel such pity that they back away, apologise, and give up on trying to get what they wanted out of her.

It's hard to tackle something as serious and personal as social anxiety in a Space Station character, and I don't particularly think it's the right environment for it either. I really enjoy the line between "actual anxious mess" and "cartoon character who bawls on the microphone." Reverie is important to me.
